Upper lid eye correction

Upper lid eye correction

Why an upper eyelid correction?

Because you have excess skin on your upper eyelids, you may experience complaints of tired or heavy eyes, headaches or burning eyes. Sometimes it can even be the case that you are looking at the excess skin. This then impedes your vision. It is also possible that the excess skin bothers you, without you having the above-mentioned complaints. For example, you may look tired and less vital.

After the operation, little of the scar is visible.

Who is a candidate for an upper eyelid correction?

In principle, everyone is eligible for an upper eyelid correction.

What are the possibilities?

An upper eyelid correction alone is often sufficient. This procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. Sometimes, however, it is desirable to combine this procedure with other procedures to achieve the optimal desired result. The position of the eyebrows can affect the excess skin of the upper eyelids. Sometimes, it is therefore necessary to combine the procedure with an eyebrow lift or forehead lift. Do you suffer from excess skin or bags under the eyes of the lower eyelids, just like with the upper eyelid? A lower eyelid correction can correct this.

A facelift can be combined with an upper eyelid correction if you also want to strengthen the subcutaneous connective and muscle tissue of the face and remove excess skin there.

We will assess and discuss together in an individual meeting which method is best for you.

Veelgestelde vragen over Upper lid eye correction

What is the recovery time after an upper eyelid correction?

After an upper eyelid correction, you can expect a recovery period of approximately 1-2 weeks. The first few days you may experience swelling, bruising and a feeling of tension around the eyes. Cooling with cold compresses for the first 24-48 hours helps to reduce swelling. The stitches are removed after 5-7 days. Most patients can resume their normal social activities and use make-up after 7-10 days. Mild swelling may persist for a few weeks, but this is usually only noticeable to you.

Is an upper eyelid correction reimbursed by the health insurer?

An upper eyelid correction can in some cases be reimbursed by the health insurer, but only if there is a medical indication. This is the case when the excess skin limits the field of vision (you are looking at the excess skin) and this can be demonstrated objectively. This usually requires photos and a visual field examination. A referral from the GP to a plastic surgeon or ophthalmologist is required for reimbursement. If the procedure is performed for purely cosmetic reasons, the costs are for your own account.

Are there any risks associated with upper eyelid surgery?

As with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated with upper eyelid surgery. These include bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, and in rare cases, difficulty closing the eyes or dry eyes. In exceptional cases, there may be changes in vision. These risks are minimized by having the procedure performed by an experienced physician with specific expertise in eyelid surgery. During the consultation, all possible risks and complications will be discussed with you in detail.
