What is IPL Laser for Pigmentation?
Age spots and hyperpigmentation contain melanin and diffuse redness contains hemoglobin. The light is absorbed by the melanin in the pigmented area and the heat reaction caused breaks down the melanin in the keratinocytes. A phototoxic reaction occurs in the melanin vesicles and the excess melanin darkens before being released from the skin. The light is also absorbed by the superficial blood vessels in the skin. The heat reaction causes blood vessels to clot, destroys protein in the vessel wall and stimulates collagen production. We can treat sun-damaged skin.
For the best results, an average of 1-3 treatments at 4-week intervals are required. In the future, additional treatments may be necessary to maintain these results.

- Sun damage
- Port wine stains
The result of an IPL Laser for pigmentation treatment
Pigmentation and diffuse redness will drastically reduce and skin texture and pore size will improve. The pigmentation will become darker in color immediately after the treatment. A few days after the treatment, the pigmented areas will develop a light crust (this is a good sign that the treatment has worked). Afterwards, the skin looks smoother and fresher. Several more treatments may be required to maintain a smooth and youthful appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What results can I expect after an IPL treatment?
Acne refers to all kinds of skin conditions that we popularly call pimples. There are a variety of causes, but in any case it is usually the sebaceous glands that become disrupted in one way or another, become clogged and can become inflamed.
These inflammations are caused by the so-called Propionibacterium acne. If the inflammation continues, together with infections, pus is formed and abscesses can develop. Together with acne we often see blackheads, black heads or white heads.
What should I take into account when I want to have laser surgery?
Although many textbooks suggest otherwise (outdated), hundreds of publications now show that nutrition has at least a lot to do with the development of acne. The biggest culprits are lactose (milk), pork, sugars and rancid fats (burnt fats).
This combination of nutrition, together with hormonal changes during puberty, can significantly enhance the effect of certain hormones (IGF-1 and DHT), causing far too much sebum to be produced. These clog the sebaceous glands and thus provide a breeding ground for bacteria.
These bacteria are always there, but if the sebaceous glands become clogged and the immune system functions less well (due to a surplus of sugars/carbohydrates), overgrowth occurs, resulting in acne. A lack of sunlight with associated vitamin D3 deficiencies can also have a significant impact. This means that there is much less acne in the summer than in the winter.
How do Nordlys (Ellipse) IPL treatments reduce unwanted pigmentation?
Nordlys (Ellipse) IPL uses high-energy light pulses to penetrate the upper layers of the skin and stimulate collagen production in the lower layers of the skin. Reaching these lower skin levels is critical as dark spots or brown spots result from your skin’s natural production of brown pigment or melanin in these lower skin levels. Nordlys (Ellipse) IPL not only stimulates collagen production to improve skin texture, but it also breaks down melanin into small particles that can then rise to the surface to flake off or be removed naturally by the lymphatic system from the body.
