The five skincare mistakes you need to stop making

1. You are using the wrong products for your skin

After years of experience in the field of skincare, I have been able to see and treat many different types of skin. Each and every skin is different and unique. Every skin has different needs and therefore also different products to match these needs.

One of the biggest skincare mistakes I encounter is using the wrong products for your skin type. Irritation, impurities, clogged pores; this can all arise from using the wrong skincare.

My tip? Get advice from a skin expert. For example, you can make an appointment for an extensive skin scan at BLOY, so that you know exactly what your skin does need and does not need.

2. You are only washing your face once a day

Many people only wash their face in the evening with a cleanser. The morning is often forgotten, even though it is very essential to properly clean your face once you wake up. When you sleep, the skin produces more sebum. This can result in blemishes and acne.

3. You are forgetting to exfoliate

Exfoliating removes dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. This ensures that new, healthier skin cells return to the surface of the skin. Exfoliating also ensures that your skincare products can penetrate deeper into the skin so that you can get more out of your skincare. Win-win!

I recommend exfoliating with a chemical exfoliant 1 to 2 times a week. My personal favorite is the Active Exfoliant from QMS Medicosmetics.

4. You started using active ingredients too quickly

Do not use too many active ingredients too quickly. Examples of active ingredients include lactic acid, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and retinol.

Build up the use of active ingredients slowly by using it once or twice a week. You can add on a day every week until the skin is used to daily use. This allows the skin to acclimatize to the product. This ensures less irritation.

5. You are forgetting your neck and cleavage

We often worry about the signs of aging in our face, such as wrinkles and frown lines, but the neck and cleavage can also reveal the signs of aging. Do not forget to apply your skincare products to the neck and cleavage as well. A good moisturizer and an SPF can work miracles.
